I honestly think, setup correctly we could have alot of people join a SF server.
Only afew active ones left, now adays.

lol, i voted no for an SF day every week, since i'm very skeptical of the player draw.
i'm down for a scheduled event like run with it. 8)

hell we can hardly get players with vanilla BF2, i just don't know how many we could get with SF, other than members "in the know".

lets see how the votes tally up after awhile, since only a few even frequent the forum.

Well, switch over to S/F expansion and check the # of servers available.  Also if we put it on message of the day, for say a certain day. The pubbers that already join will probably switch if they have it..

We deftly need to setup a test profile for SF, with I would say a good many of the maps. Start advertising it on the server MoTD, stating this day we will be a SF server, please come join us.  Not mention there are other players on current SF servers, looking for a good place to play on.

Sometime this week, let's get senior admins together, to discuss a test rotation for one day a week, for special forces.
If it gets our avgs up, it will be worth it.
Make a scrolling message, advising all pubbers that will be having a SF day of map rotations. 
I strongly believe there is a good chance we could get more traffic to server that way.
Iam shooting for maybe sometime tomorrow evening for the rotation pick, and discussions.

One actually active server in SF, and it run Ghost Town, 24/7.

hello world -

It would be nice to see spec forces once a week, ideally at least for a 2 to 4 week try/run (maybe with an occasional in game banner announcement).  I've the mod, but not been able to find places to play all the maps.  I'd suggest both IO and vehicles (maybe half the day, or every other week), as there are some new/different vehicles in that version that would be fun to explore further (ex: crummy pickups w/ 50cal, off-road vehicles, jet skis).

OK, we are getting significant interest in running SF, so i think its time we drill down some options.

First, of course is a day to run. I would be fine with a half day Infy and half day with vehicles, but a problem is not enough "CC admins", that is admins with BF2cc, the program that is used to change/modify the server profiles. If no CC admin is available at change time, it won't happen.

We should also decide if all maps, or just a subset will be run. Of course, we could just run all and then narrow the list as needed over time.


Maps available are:

Devils Perch
Ghost Town
Iron Gator
Leviathan
Mass Destruction
Night Flight
Surge
Warlord

How about 3 days regular bf2 rotation with veichles, 2 days of bf2 infy, 1 day with bf2:sf veichles, and 1 day with bf2:sf infy? Maybe it'll be too confusing to pubs or something, just my two cents :D

Special Forces rotation:

Warlord : 32 or 64.. As long as server is full, 64 could be fun.. Should start off with 32.
GhostTown 32, i think 64 might be a much, without having 75% pop.
Iron Gator 32 or 64. I think 64 would be hella fun in the dark.
Leviathan 64, I think 32 might be abit smaller than we usually in.
Mass Destruction 64
Night Flight 32
Surge 32/64 it appears both have same # of flags and space.

Agree/Disagree/Changes?

I say we try it out for either Sat or Sunday... I believe Sat we might have more traffic.
Admins should be on their toes for more hackers, and botters in this Xpansion.
Since less people play it than vanilla, there are more padding servers, and time servers then active overall.

Let's make this happen, Capt....

Brandon... what is correct way to change over profiles from one to another in CC? Stop server, change profile, restart?

Mmm. I don't think our busiest times is a good idea.
I was thinking we use a day that is typically slow, then we don't hurt regular population that's not into SF.

Perhaps Wed, or Thurs.?


CC profile change is tricky unfortunately. Have to be sure the maplist is correct, it screws it up on infy most of the time I have to fix the maplist before apply profile. If the map mode drops and you don't notice and hit apply, then server will never come up, since it has no valid map to load.
CC is a bitch. Very easy to fuck shit up real quick. I'd like to go over it in vent before anyone even tries it, for risk of server crashing.

Yeap agreed... Go ahead and create a SF profile.. FF off. Same rules apply as default profile. Whatever day works, we just need to get some SF time in, on a quality server.

While very interested in spec forces @ tits, I would proceed cautiously in an exploratory fashion.  The idea fits well with the "outside-the-box" approach that tits takes on bf2.

Reviewing the gametracker historical trends for tits, weekends look pretty popular already, and probably not something to interfere with (if anything, use that as an opportunity to advertise our plans :-D).    http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/68.232.165.11:16567/

If we try spec-forces on a day that's already a 'dud' (say Wed or Thur), we'll have little to lose.  Worst case, we can drop this experiment after two or four weeks.  Even if there is some success, I expect the admins will review and adjust after a couple weeks.

*** key detail: as a tits community member, I would be able to help prime the spec-forces server on a Wed or Thur PM.  Input from other tits members per this would be useful.  Maybe a second poll?

Not having a lot of experience with spec-forces (mostly warlord and ghost-town), it would be interesting to try all the maps initially.  This would allow people to get more familiar with the options, and for admins to note community trends/interest.

so far Wed or Thurs, seems to be the day that would have least impact.

I think overall, the Special Forces rotation was a success.  We had a good many pubbers, join in. For the most part most of the members, played as much as they could. 
Good many regs came and played as well. Now if we can get some feedback.
I think Warlord needs to be switch to 64, and maybe one or 2 others.
Not sure of round time, but for whatever reason, it seemed shorter, on SF.
Probably just me..

Funny as shit when me and karma were wandering around on that carrier all lost and cussing about it!

Would warlord 64 be too big? Why not try it.
Any maps that should be removed? It didn't seem like it to me, but I was lost all night, so wtf do I know anyway.

Best to squad up with someone that knows the maps.. It's going to take me a abit to get back into the swing of the things..
People that have been playing need to check out the rewards, ribbons, and medals, for SF.
I need afew hours on some, and alot on others...

Yep - i would concur that the SF day went pretty well.  My rating would be 3.5/5.

+ server seemed At Least as busy as the previous Wednesday
+ saw several regulars and also some new faces throughout the evening
+ got to play through all the SF maps (many of which I only had ~2 minutes on previously, from hoping in and out of crummy time/stat-padding servers)

- at least a couple regulars were unable to join us because of SF copy/license issues.  I (donfede) will be glad to sponsor a Steam copy of SF for anyone that needs one; PM me.
- some users that tried Steam SF had crashes.  Thinking about these challenges more leisurely, I suspect the crashes were due to incomplete installs (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4341-SHXN-0411)
- we didn't get to try IO; but that was likely not appropriate for the trial night and configured maps
- personally, it seems that Tue for BF2-IO and Wed for SF, are too close together...  but, I don't have a better day to suggest either.

I concur with missing the Warlord 64 map.  While it is a large map, I would equate it with Karkand 64, which often succeeds on the tits server. 

Looking forward to giving it another run.

I've had BF2 for years, finally ditched the discs and did the full BF2 steam download. Since then I've wondered if it included SF. I would love to play those maps again. Good to find this forum, Googled tits&taps several timesand only got game tracker stuff.
